The Story

From 1971-81, the “Big Four” (aka Duke, Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest) played an annual basketball tournament in Greensboro. The tournament put the most intense rivalries in all of college sports under one roof – we’re sure you know, but none of these teams like each other. Duke won the tournament in 1978 and 1979, defeating North Carolina in both Big Four title matches.
