FSU’s relationship to the Seminole Tribe of Florida is a longstanding tradition, but the school’s core colors of garnet and gold also have a rich history. Florida State College used to wear purple, and when it became Florida State Women’s College, the student body selected crimson as a school color. The college then combined purple and crimson into garnet. Over 100 years later, they added black and white to their official colors to represent the Seminoles’ flag.
