Founded by John Bryan Bowman as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky' in 1865, the largest school in the Commonwealth today didn’t officially become the University of Kentucky until 1916. Student life picked up steam as the football program started in the 1890’s, followed by the women’s basketball team in 1902 and men’s basketball in 1903.
