The Story

This 1990s-inspired look incorporates a classic illustration of the Nittany Lion Shrine. Carved from a 13-ton block of Indiana limestone by Heinz Warneke, it was dedicated in 1942 by the Penn State class of 1940. Replicas of the shrine are found on Penn State’s campuses across Pennsylvania, albeit scaled down to one-quarter size of the original, towering figure.
